Day 4
Saturday,
May 25, Day 4
Once again,
we had a day full of small events and lots of walking. Nellie’s other friend
Barbara came for breakfast, as she does on the days she cleans the house. She
didn’t eat anything, though, because it’s Ramadan, which we had not considered.
She is a lovely woman from Ghana, and we had a great chat – in English,
naturally – with lots of laughs. Nellie and I had to eat for 3…
While
Barbara was cleaning, we went out to see some of the neighbourhood garage sale.
I made a tiny purchase and took pictures of things I couldn’t bring home.
At Jenny’s
house, we rested and had coffee, juice and cake, as we watched the folks coming
and going.

I did extra resting while Nellie checked out sales further down the
street. By 2 p.m., I was ready for my nap! Nellie mowed the lawn.

Roofing can be tile or solar panels! |
The garage
sale was almost wrapped up by the time we left for the next event. We took the
bus downhill to save my strength. Our first stop was the seniors’ home to see
paintings Nellie has on display there. They are on serious topics, war,
refugees, climate change, etc., but are quite beautiful. She has posted the pictures
and their poems on her blog: https://nelliegoldstein.wordpress.com/
We proceeded
slowly down the street to the community hall where concerts and a dance were
being held, and sausages and beer would be sold. We were early, so Nellie went
off to see a few more stalls and I was able to call Neil before things got
underway. (Neil’s hiking trip in the south of France is going well, with good
weather until now.)
Apologies for verticality! |
The rock band that followed was good, but too loud for the small hall.
We walked
all the way (up) home. I made it! My Fitbit credits me with another
overachieving day! We watched some TV news and Karl came by to report on his
trip to their cottage. Suddenly it was 10 o’clock and dark. The yawns began,
and Nellie has gone to bed. I will be in bed soon, having actually caught u p on
this blog on the same day.
Stay tuned
for tomorrow’s big events: Sunday breakfast with the family and maybe an international
city bus ride.
